Until about a decade ago this topic was highly under-researched. The standard introduction is Kenrick and Puxon’s The Destiny of Europe’s Gypsies—an old work—though never surpassed. The best short overview on the fate of the Gypsies under the Nazis is Huttenbach’s article (listed below). The ideology underlying the persecution of the Gypsies is discussed by Friedlander and Lewy.
